Communication update from Principal Anderson
Glenbard East Families:
Fortunately, the threat to Glenbard East on Friday was ultimately found to not be credible. Unfortunately, both across the country and locally there has been a recent surge of threats of violence to schools posted on social media. I understand how Friday’s incident on the heels of what occurred the week prior can be scary and anxiety provoking. Despite these recent incidents, Glenbard East is a safe place. The last two weeks serve as a reminder that we are all responsible for the safety of our school community. We have continually messaged that if you see something, to say something, and are grateful for those that have. We also continue to expect our students to enter and exit the building through authorized doors. Additionally, it is important that students are conscientious of what they post to social media. Please take this opportunity to talk to your student about the importance of not re-posting spam threats. Currently, there is a post circulating that depicts an image of a bathroom stall and includes language threatening school violence. Please know that we have confirmed the bathroom stall is not a Glenbard East facility.
Lastly, we have heard that some families did not receive the messages that were communicated the last two weeks. Please note that SchoolMessenger serves our primary family notification system (mass calls and emails). The contact information used with this system is pulled from a certain section in PowerSchool which is why you are receiving this message as well as emails from staff members, but may not have received the communication about the recent incidents. Therefore, I encourage all families to make sure your contact information is updated in PowerSchool. Specifically, information must be added to the “Glenbard Notification Information (Automated)” section of the Demographic Verification page in your Parent PowerSchool account (pictured below) for each of your students.
The safety of all Glenbard East students and staff is of great importance. In partnership with our local law enforcement, we are steadfast in our commitment to keeping our school a safe place for learning.
