Families can build the habit of good school attendance

Even for teenagers, families play a key role in making sure students access learning opportunities and understand why attendance is so important for success in school. Families can also advocate for resources to help students learn if they cannot attend in person.

It is important to understand that in order for students to take advantage of the many opportunities available to them, they must be at school. Daily attendance is vital to both academic and extracurricular success. We expect East students to attend school, be on time, and be prepared for school each day. However, if your son/daughter is sick, we encourage you to keep them home.

Home routines to support good school attendance

GOOD ATTENDANCE STARTS WITH GOOD SLEEP!

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends teenagers sleep 8-10 hours a day.

MAKE A GOOD BEDTIME ROUTINE AND STICK TO IT.

  • Set a time to get ready for bed EVERY NIGHT and STICK TO IT.
  • Shut down electronics 30 minutes before you go to bed.
  • Put your alarm far away enough that you have to get up to turn it off.
  • Pack your bag and set out your clothes before you go to sleep.

SET UP YOUR MORNINGS FOR SUCCESS BY HAVING A PLAN.

Make sure you’ve got enough time to do what you need to do to feel ready for the day. Plan time to:

  • Brush your teeth
  • Fix your hair
  • Eat a good breakfast

IT CAN TAKE 18 DAYS TO BUILD A GOOD HABIT!  STICK WITH IT AND YOU ARE ON THE ROAD TO SUCCESS!

Develop a plan as a family and commit to supporting one another in sticking to it!
